What API powers this tool?

This tool uses the Free Dictionary API (dictionaryapi.dev), a free, open-source API with no API key required. It supports English and several other languages.

What if a word is not found?

If the API cannot find a word it returns a 404 response. The tool shows a friendly 'word not found' message and suggests checking the spelling.

Are my searches private?

Your search history is stored only in your browser's localStorage and is never sent to our servers. The word you look up is sent only to dictionaryapi.dev.

Can I look up words in other languages?

The Free Dictionary API supports multiple languages. This tool is configured for English by default, but you can search other language words that the API covers.
